ToggleEvery famous movie star has a role that makes them famous and is known as their “big break.” These roles define their acting careers for many years. However, some actors and actresses wish their fans would forget about these famous roles, despite the fame and fortune they brought. As time goes by, it becomes clear that these actors and actresses truly dislike those roles. For example, Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, who starred in the widely-watched teen drama Gossip Girl as Serena van Der Woodsen and Dan Humphries, respectively, wish to distance themselves from these iconic roles and not be associated with them throughout their careers. There are many other actors and actresses who feel the same way, as listed below.
Blake Lively – Gossip Girl
As mentioned earlier, Lively didn’t really like her character in Gossip Girl.
In an interview, she confessed that she didn’t feel proud of playing a character who introduced someone to drugs, leading to an overdose, and then got involved in shooting someone and having an affair with someone else’s boyfriend. While people loved her character, she personally felt conflicted because she wanted to convey a more positive message.
Penn Badgley – Gossip Girl
Just like Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphries on Gossip Girl, was also unhappy with his role. What bothered him the most was the message the show conveyed.
In a tweet from 2015, he wrote, “Haha, we’re reclining in NYC. I’m portrayed as a futon. It speaks to an image of white privilege.”
